The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has imposed a fine of 49.9 million forints on Mobilredfox Kft., which specializes in the distribution of mobile phone cases and accessories, due to fundamental shortcomings related to promotions – the competition authority informed MTI on Wednesday.

The announcement recalled that the procedure initiated by the GVH against Mobilredfox Kft. in the fall of 2024 was examined for the price display and promotion practices displayed on the company’s website. The national competition authority suspected that there were systemic deficiencies in the company’s practices, such as misleading promotions, frequent, even daily, random changes to prices marked as original prices, and the lack of internal rules for applying original and promotional prices.

The Competition Council of the GVH found that the company engaged in unfair commercial practices. It turned out that Mobilredfox Kft. developed and operated a price and discount display system from March 9, 2023 to August 19, 2025 that did not ensure that consumers received real information about the available price discount, its existence and extent.

The company cooperated with the GVH during the procedure, acknowledged the violation and waived its right to legal remedy. In addition, the company made comprehensive commitments to improve its promotion practices. These were mandatory requirements for it by the GVH Competition Council, and their implementation will be assessed by the competition authority in the context of a follow-up inspection, if necessary. Considering all of this, the GVH Competition Council imposed a fine of 49.9 million forints on the company.

In its statement, the GVH also reminded that it has been paying special attention to the price display practices of businesses in recent years. For example, CCC and Answear made comprehensive commitments as a result of the GVH’s proceedings, while About You will pay a total of more than 1 billion forints for deceptive actions, the competition authority wrote.
