GVH: Answear clothing online store will operate more transparently
The Competition Council of the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) concluded its proceedings by accepting the commitments of the Polish company operating the Answear clothing online store, and the store will operate more transparently – the competition authority announced on Friday.
The GVH announced in a statement: In the summer of 2023, an investigation was launched against the Hungarian, Polish and German operators of three large domestic clothing and shoe online stores – CCC, Answear and About You – because they allegedly displayed the prices of their products advertised as on sale in an unlawful manner.
A true and clear description of the extent of promotions and discounts, as well as their basis for comparison, is of paramount importance to consumers, as this allows them to properly compare product prices and assess the benefits and savings offered within the framework of the promotions – the competition authority emphasized.
The company operating Answear was cooperative with the competition authority, having already stopped some of its price display practices investigated by the GVH during the proceedings, and also committed to changing its communication regarding its general discounts
– they announced.
According to the GVH’s assessment, Answear’s commitment is suitable for effectively addressing the identified problems. The Competition Council closed the case by accepting the commitment and making it binding – without establishing a violation or lack thereof. The GVH will verify the fulfillment of the commitments in a follow-up investigation.
