GVH: The application of artificial intelligence can increase the competitiveness of Hungarian enterprises
The rapid spread of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, or if they do not start using them, can cause a competitive disadvantage for small and medium-sized enterprises – among other things, the Economic Competition Authority (GVH) warns of this in its recently concluded market analysis. The experts of the GVH also draw attention to the fact that self-learning systems are typically taught using texts written in major world languages, which can affect the validity of the so-called small languages, such as the Hungarian language. Based on the findings of the market analysis available on its website, the GVH also formulated proposals in order to protect consumers and maintain intense market competition between businesses.
At the beginning of January, the Economic Competition Authority – among the first of the EU competition authorities – launched a market analysis in order to examine the effects of artificial intelligence. The purpose of the GVH was to investigate whether the explosive spread of AI-based technologies could distort market competition in various sectors and put consumers in a more vulnerable position.
During the just concluded market analysis, GVH investigators mapped in detail the development history of AI, international regulatory frameworks, and also used detailed questionnaires to contact large international technology companies and the developers of prominent generative AI models in order to get a comprehensive picture of the companies’ AI-related developments, and about its AI-based services, the structure of the market, the existing competitive conditions, and the consumer protection practices of the respondents. In addition, the GVH investigators consulted with a number of domestic developers and businesses using AI-based technologies, and held several rounds of consultations with domestic research institutes, universities, and state and non-profit organizations in order to get as comprehensive a picture as possible of domestic regulation, developments, and technology adoption by domestic businesses. , about the options available to them. GVH’s market analysis targeted two specific focus markets (banking services, telecommunications sector).
