GVH: the online price monitor also reduces prices in the last days before Christmas
Prices have decreased in more than 80 percent of the 62 product categories in the online price monitor, and the system operated by the Economic Competition Office (GVH) will soon be expanded with new products, the competition authority told MTI on Wednesday.
According to the announcement of the GVH, the targeted government measures and the online price monitoring system operated by the competition office since July 1 have reduced food inflation by less than a sixth. According to the data of the Central Statistical Office (KSH), the increase in food prices in November this year was 7.1 percent, which also indicates an extremely dynamic decrease from the point of view of economic history compared to the 44.8 percent figure measured in December 2022, they wrote.
The competition office drew attention to the fact that the online price monitor should also be used before Christmas shopping. With conscious planning – for example, using the shopping list and store filter functions on the map – you can save thousands of forints and a lot of time during Christmas shopping.
The announcement also highlighted that the online price monitor will soon be expanded with new product categories. Lactose- and gluten-free products most commonly consumed by people with food allergies are included in the system, which is important because more than 3 million people in Hungary live with some form of food intolerance. The price monitor will thus help them in a targeted way – they wrote.
