Mobile refrigerator boxes with GPS
Today, it is possible not only to monitor where our vehicles are and what they are doing, but we can also check the temperature in the storage space and whether the door is properly closed, or not. – It is much simpler to transport something from Budapest to Melbourne frozen at –70ºC, than at +25 degrees – says Mrs. Rébi, Marianna Sokhegyi, managing director of World Courier Kft. Maintaining a constantly low temperature is not cheap. Insulated storage space can be twice as expensive as the cargo space of conventional commercial vehicles and refrigerating equipment pushes the price even further up. Refrigerated vehicles are roughly 30 per cent more expensive than trucks without this type of equipment. Refrigerated warehouses are 50 per cent more expensive than conventional ones. According to Tamás Valkó, managing director of Thermosol Kft., a distributor of insulated storage compartments for commercial vehicles, GPS applications exist which allow the internal temperature to be monitored remotely. Kata Borsos from Reflex Kft. believes that drivers working in international forwarding must be familiar with refrigerating technology and able repair minor malfunctions. Gábor Nemes, sales director of Matusz-Vad Kft. thinks that it is difficult to find a reliable contractor for the transportation of frozen food. Matusz-Vad Kft. has all kinds of customers with the exception of major retail chains. Their suppliers deliver goods to their two large refrigerated warehouses, where 18 refrigerated delivery trucks are used for distributing products to customers. – The refrigeration chain must never be broken – explains Gábor Nemes. Temperature is checked on every palette delivered and trucks are loaded during the night, while their refrigerating systems are connected to the external mains.
