Tamás Günzer is the wine producer of the year
On the first Sunday of March, in the framework of an elegant gala lunch at the Marriott Hotel, the certificate recognizing the title of “Wine Producer of the Year in Hungary 2023” by the Hungarian Wine Academy, the most prestigious domestic award that can be won by Hungarian winemakers, was presented to winemaker Tamás Günzer from Villány.
The award does not mean recognition of the excellent quality of a wine, but can be awarded for the outstanding performance of the winning wine producer over several years, for the constant, excellent quality of his wines, for their domestic and foreign successes, and for his efforts for the wine industry. The president of the Hungarian Wine Academy, Csaba Koch, emphasized in his celebratory speech that this prize was awarded with great effort based on the two-round voting. In the first round, nearly 900 recognized and respected personalities of the sector, members of major professional organizations, prominent persons in hospitality and gastronomy, as well as representatives of the trade press, were able to vote. In the second round, members of the Hungarian Wine Academy and former winemakers with the title of Wine Producer of the Year could vote.
In the past year, Tamás Günzer was among the candidates for the third time, Csaba Koch emphasized, and thus, after 24 years, a winemaker from Villány won the award again.
