Gergely Gulyás: Foot-and-mouth disease may have arrived in Levél from Slovakia
Based on the current data, it seems obvious that foot-and-mouth disease arrived in the infected herd of Levél settlement in Győr-Moson-Sopron county from Slovakia – the minister leading the Prime Minister’s Office said in response to a question on Government Information in Budapest on Thursday.

Gergely Gulyás said that after Nagybajcs, foot-and-mouth disease has also appeared in another settlement, Levél. According to his description, it concerns a herd of three thousand cattle, the vaccination of which has begun to prevent the disease from spreading further, but the animals must be killed regardless. The minister highlighted that the disease was detected in the initial stage and restrictive measures were taken in the districts of Győr and Mosonmagyaróvár; backyard and susceptible animals are slaughtered at this time. He said: the epidemiological investigation is underway, and based on the current data, it seems obvious that this is an infection coming from the Highlands, Slovakia. That is why the cooperation with the Slovak authorities is “strong”, he added.
