Gergely Gulyás: the government is preparing a complex action plan to curb excessive increases in food prices
As a first step, the government is preparing a complex action plan to reduce inflation and food prices – announced Gergely Gulyás, the Minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office, in Budapest on Thursday.
Gergely Gulyás explained to Government Info that at Wednesday’s cabinet meeting, they also heard an economic situation assessment from Economy Minister Márton Nagy, which included how to most effectively combat price increases.
Based on January data, the most dangerous is the excessive increase in food prices, and action must be taken against this
– Gergely Gulyás recorded.
He explained that as a first step, the government is preparing a complex action plan. The Minister of National Economy has already held talks with representatives of food chains. The complex action plan would mean introducing market protection measures, profit restrictions, and reducing the bureaucratic burdens of companies interested in this industry.
They expect that the measures will have results as early as March. If this is not the case, then official prices will be introduced
– declared Gergely Gulyás.
He said: the government’s position is clear, they will resort to official prices as a last resort, but if necessary to curb inflation and especially food prices, they will do so.
