Gulyás: the price cap is also extended to fresh eggs and table potatoes
The government has decided to extend the price freeze on fresh eggs and table potatoes until the end of the year, Gergely Gulyás, the minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office, announced at the Government Information in Budapest on Wednesday.

Potatoes and eggs are the two new price-stop products
Gergely Gulyás said: the government stated again at its Tuesday meeting that the biggest problem the Hungarian economy is struggling with is sanctioned inflation. He added: it was enough to announce that the European Union was preparing to accept another package of sanctions, and the price of gas rose significantly.
He said that the increase in energy prices is also reflected in the increase in food prices. He noted: as long as there are new sanctions, there will be sanctioned inflation, but the government has a firm intention to reduce inflation to half of the current level by the end of next year. As he said, this is why they maintain the reduced utility prices up to average consumption, the gasoline price cap for residential consumers, and the interest cap for small and medium-sized enterprises, which also reduce inflation.
He added: that is why they decided on the price cap for certain foods and now that it will be extended to potatoes and fresh eggs as well. According to the decision, the gross retail price for the two products in the store, shopping center or in the case of commercial activity with parcel delivery cannot be higher than the gross retail price applied by the merchant on September 30, 2022. He said: markets are not subject to regulation.
