Outstanding successes in Badacsony at the Italian Riesling World Championship
Badacsony wines achieved outstanding results at the third GROW du Monde international competition, which was hosted by Hungary this year. 349 domestic and foreign wines competed at the World Championship of Italian Rieslings in Balatonfüred, and at the award ceremony held on May 31, 5 trophies were awarded to the category winners, in addition to 17 platinum, 82 gold, 92 silver and 82 bronze medals. Badacsony wines won 2 platinum, 11 gold, 13 silver and 4 bronze medals.
Wine judges from all over the world searched for the best and most authentic wines at the GROW du Monde competition
“As an international wine competition, a wider competition is provided for the winemakers of Balaton and Badacsony, as well as for the Italian Rieslings produced here. I consider the GROW du Monde competition to be a great initiative, as it is possible to compare the type of wine that is relatively widespread in Central Europe with the Italian Rieslings of other countries, and thus we can get an accurate picture of where our Badacsony wines are positioned internationally. On the other hand, through the competition and the accompanying professional programs, the winemakers of the surrounding countries and the foreign experts participating in the judging had the opportunity to get to know the Italian Riesling wines made in our country better. Italian Riesling is one of our most popular varieties, which is why we are very happy that our wines performed extremely well at the competition, as we won 3 gold and 1 silver medal. This confirms our efforts to make high-quality wines that can hold their own on international markets.”
– said Dr. Tamás Büttner, owner of the 15-hectare Büttner Borbirtok.
