According to a Nielsen survey, in the 3rd quarter of 2013 eight out of ten Hungarians changed their spending habits to save money. The average of 31 European countries in this respect was 60 percent. This proportion was above 80 percent in Greece, Portugal, Italy and Ireland; a proportion between 30 and 40 percent was measured in Germany, Austria and Norway. The two ends of the spectrum were Greece with 88 percent and Germany with 33 percent. 70 percent of Hungarians said they had switched to cheaper groceries.
