GKI: this is how the utility increase affects the public’s wallet
According to two-thirds of the households, the change in the rules for utility reduction will affect their own financial situation. People living in single-family homes and properties over 100 square meters, small-town and village residents, and families with children are most afraid of this. On average, those surveyed expect a HUF 27,000 monthly increase in their burden, according to the results of a joint research by GKI and Masterplast in August.
As part of the GKI’s public survey series, the August survey was conducted to map the population affected by the change in the utility reduction rules, as well as the energy-saving modernization plans and intentions. We report on this latter topic in the second part of our article. The population sample interviewed during this survey is 1,000 people, representative in terms of gender, age, place of residence and educational level. Data collection took place between August 3 and 12. From January 2020, the surveys will be prepared with the support of Masterplast Nyrt.
Since the government communique announcing the change in the rules for utility reduction, many people have been concerned about whether this measure will affect their own households, and if so, how much the burden will increase. Half, but in fact almost the whole country is counting. According to the government’s estimate, 25-25% of consumers may be affected by the increase in utility costs for both electricity and gas. Expert estimates are usually more pessimistic than this.
