Consumers look for more economical sources of energy
A modest restructuring is taking place on the battery market, alkaline and Zinc coal batteries play the leading roles. Private labels’ expansion and novelties push the category forward. We find battery-operated devices all over the house; hence, it is worth reminding consumers with secondary placements and cash register placements to buy batteries. Still, battery sales were in a decline recently and private label products managed to increase their share. The emphasis moved to the ”value” category of HUF 500-700 alkaline batteries. According to Gabriella Jungvirth, VARTA’s trade marketing manager, A-brands did well in this category because consumers trust a well-known brand. Formerly retreating Zinc coal batteries seem to hold their position, but in the long run they are expected to lose ground. Rechargeable batteries meet consumer demand for being economical and environmentally conscious. VARTA SOLAR charger debuted well, sold with the most well known mobile phone and USB adapters. Gabriella Jungvirth added that from September, their alkaline batteries would return with a new design and technological solutions. One of the most important features is a pictogram informing about the field of use. Another innovative product, VARTA V-Man arrives in October. It is a trendy mobile energy source. When charged, this small device is capable of recharging two mobile phones or ten MP3 players.
