Grain at almost half price
Average supply price of agricultural products was down by 26.8 percent in March 2009, compared to the same month in 2008. The price of plant products was down by 35.1 percent, while that of livestock and animal products was down by 5.2 percent. Average supply price of agricultural products was down by 28.7 percent in January-March 2009, while production costs were down by 2.1 percent. In March 2009, grain prices were down to little more than 50 percent of their 2008 value. The price of potato was up by 2.1 percent, while the price of vegetables was down by 2.9 percent. The price of swine intended for slaughter was up by 15.2 percent, while that of cattle intended for slaughter was up by 12.1 percent. The price of eggs was up by 3.3 percent, while that of milk was down by 26.8 percent. In January-March 2009, grain prices were down by 49.7 percent, compared to the same period in 2008, while the price of livestock intended for slaughter was up by 3.5 percent. The price of animal products was down by 19.3 percent in the first quarter of 2009.
