FruitVeb: fruit growers closed an average, vegetable growers have had a good year
The fruit growers had a somewhat better year than average, but the vegetable growers have closed a good year in 2017 – Ledó Ferenc, President of the Hungarian Vegetables and Fruit Interprofessional Organization and Product Board (FruitVeb) told MTI on Thursday in Kecskemét.
At the annual professional conference of FruitVeb and TÉSZ-ÉSZ fruit and vegetable growers’, Lédó Ferenc emphasized that until the end of March fruit production could close a record year, but the frosts of April caused 25 to 30 percent loss, mainly in the sour cherry and apple crops. In contrast, more autumn apricot has grown than in recent years. Fruit growers harvested roughly 850-900 thousand tons of fruit this year, the amount of apples was 520-530 thousand ton. (MTI)
