FruitVeb: there is currently no threat of a drought in the country
There is no threat of drought in the country for the time being, only the soil surface is dry in some areas of the south-eastern part of the country – read the summary published on Monday on the website of the FruitVeb Hungarian Vegetable and Fruit Trade Organization and Product Council.
In Hungary, the water supply of the middle and deeper soil layers is good in the majority of the country, only in smaller areas a temporary water shortage has developed – they wrote with reference to the data of the National Meteorological Service. The near-surface part of the soil dried out only in Szeged and along the Körösök, the moisture needed for spring sowing is missing from the upper layers in the areas of Szeged, Mezőtúr, Szeghalom and Mezőberény.
At the same time, agriculture is already suffering from a significant lack of rainfall in many parts of the continent
Data from the European Drought Observatory (EDO) show that the drought is severe in the eastern part of the Balkans, in France, Italy and especially in Spain. Here, the weather affects both cereals, sunflowers, fruit trees and vegetables, and based on the estimates so far, the drought damage could reach 4 billion euros this year – reads the announcement of FruitVeb.
