Alföld Pro-Coop Zrt. strengthens its fresh product segment
Domestic retail is stricken by economic difficulties, less money in consumers’ pockets and weakening purchasing power. Coop reacted to these trends by not surrendering: they carry on with the modernisation programme – improving their IT system and interior-exterior refurbishment of stores – they started years ago. Alföld Pro-Coop Zrt. CEO Eszter Vágóné Balla told us that building a modern 3,700m² warehouse complex by the M5 motorway near Kecskemét also forms part of this modernisation programme. This new logistics capacity guarantees the modern fresh product (dairy and meat products, cooled poultry meat) and frozen product supply of Coop stores. Environmentally friendly cooling technology is used at the logistics base that will be officially inaugurated in spring 2012.The development costs HUF 462 million, from which 162 million comes from the National Development Agency’s GOP-2009-3.2.1 programme. Alföld Pro-Coop Zrt. coordinates the retail policy of 500 Coop stores in the region and provides them with – mostly Hungarian – products as a wholesaler.
