Kaufland launches in France
German ecommerce giant Kaufland has launched its marketplace in France. It is the sixth country where the marketplace is active. Customers in the country can now order over three million items, from more than 6,400 categories on the platform.
Kaufland is a hypermarket chain from Germany, which is part of the Schwarz Group. Last year, it expanded into Austria. In April this year, it already announced two upcoming launches in Italy and France. Now, it has realized the first launch of the year, in France. The launch in Italy is scheduled for late summer.
Facilitating cross-border sales
French sellers can use the Kaufland platform to sell their products domestically, as well as cross-border. They can now reach 81 million online customers in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Austria. The platform offers services like the translation of product data and legal texts, or personal retailer support to make cross-border selling easier.
In France alone, already 2,800 online sellers have signed up. Kaufland expects to be able to reach 37 million potential online customers in France, and 22 million in Italy. That would bring the total reachable online shoppers with Kaufland to around 140 million
‘Great interest among French retailers’
According to the company, there are already 13,000 retailers selling on the Kaufland marketplace across Europe. “There is great interest among both French and international retailers in offering their products on our new Kaufland marketplace in France”, says Gerald Schönbucher, CEO of Kauland e-commerce.
“French customers will gain access to millions of new offers and new product ranges. Our goal is to provide customers with a product range similar to that available in Germany, where 45 million items are already available. We also want to become the top European platform for French retailers in the country, allowing them to sell their products easily, conveniently, and successfully both nationally and internationally.”
