According to the franchise top list of 2008 published by www.enterpreneur.com, 7-Eleven has broken the hegemony of Subway. Donkin Donuts, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s and KFC are all there in the top 10, while 26 out of the top 100 franchise businesses belong to the catering sector.
Subway to open its 14th restaurant in Budapest and its 8th one outside of Budapest. The second largest sandwich chain in the world has 28,000 units world-wide. Subway sandwiches are prepared in front of customers who can choose the spices and sauce to be used.
Testarossa Hungaria to continue systematic chain building in 2008. The chain has 3 units in Budapest and 2 outside of Budapest so far. They intend to open three new cafes in Budapest, Győr and Pécs. Testarossa plans to have 20 cafes by2010.
Mr Kebab fast food to be one of the success stories of 2008. The Slovakian-Austrian-Turkish-Hungarian chain which opened its first two restaurants last year in Szombathely plans to open nine new units this year in Győr, Eger, Szeged, Nyíregyháza, Székesfehérvá and Budapest. The poultry used is imported from Austria. Belfrit plans to triple the number of its units in Hungary in 2008. This chain which had been launched in Belgium and now has over 160 restaurants, is built around fresh potato. They also sell finger food and salads. At the moment, they operate three restaurants in Hungary.
Management of Pizza Pont decides to convert the existing chain into holding. The reasons for the conversion into a holding are purely administrative. One new unit is to be added to the five already operating this year.
Best pasta concepts remain evergreen in the restaurant business. The success of the German chain, Vapiano is proof of this. Within just three years of opening their first restaurant, they already operate 30 Switzerland, Austria and Turkey.
