New restaurant, strange marketing
The 24th Burger King unit in Hungary was opened in May. It is also the 20th in Budapest. Burger King has 11,000 units world-wide with more than 15 million customers daily. Their marketing strategy has often been criticised in the past, with their “Virgin mouths” campaign resulting in the most recent controversy in December. According to the concept, they wanted to test how whopper is received by the most isolated populations of people in the world. The campaign is regarded as exploitative and even lead to an official complaint being filed by Mexico.
Belfrit expanding
The Belgian Belfrit chain which has seven units in Hungary at present, plans to open three new units this year. Two of these have already been opened in Újpest and Győr. All items on the menu of Belfrit units are made from potato.
New “Hungarian products only chain”
In May, it was announced that the first “Hungarian products only” store is to open in Szigetszentmiklós. The chain is to operate in a franchise system and is intended to help Hungarian farmers in selling their products directly to consumers.
Open kitchens in McDonald’s units
The first Open Days by McDonald”s Magyarország have been held recently with guided tours taking customers behind the scenes in 99 units. Customers had an opportunity to see every detail of the production process.
