An important milestone in the generational renewal of Hungarian agriculture

The generational change in the sector is promoted if the farms of farmers who are close to or have already reached retirement age are taken over by younger people. The call, implemented within the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy and co-financed by the European Union, aims to encourage this cooperation between the elderly and young generations. Based on the call, a natural person transferring a farm in accordance with the Act on the Transfer of Agricultural Farms may receive support if, during the prescribed mentoring period, he/she assists the transferee in creating the necessary conditions for the continuous operation of the farm, has a farm size of at least 10,000 euros STÉ (Standard Production Value) or a turnover of at least 10,000 euros, and has reached or will reach the old-age pension age at the time of completion of the operation implemented with the support. An important requirement is that the applicant for support must have a declaration of intent to transfer the farm specified in the call, which must be submitted as an annex to the support application. The call for applications supports the conclusion of the farm transfer contract with the transferee, the transfer of the farm, the performance of activities serving the orderly closure of the transferor’s management, and the fulfillment of the obligations specified in the call. Farmers transferring their farms can apply for support of between HUF 4 and 20 million during the application period starting on August 28, 2025, depending on the size of the farm or their sales revenue.
