An important deadline is approaching for kata entrepreneurs: they must submit their tax returns for the previous year by February 25. The Számlázz.hu database, which has nearly 800,000 registered businesses, currently has 47,000 kata customers registered. The number of kata entrepreneurs is growing steadily year after year, with nearly 7,000 new kata entrepreneurs appearing in the system in one year. kata entrepreneurs currently issue nearly 4.5 million documents (invoices and receipts) at the leading fintech company.

The number of kata entrepreneurs at Számlázz.hu has been growing steadily over the past two years. Last year, the market-leading fintech company dealing with financial administration welcomed five thousand new kata entrepreneurs to its system, and this year, nearly seven thousand. After 40,000 last year, 47,000 businesses have indicated that they pay their taxes using kata.

The number of katas in 2022 was 261 thousand, and then from September 1, 2022, when the itemized tax for small-taxpaying enterprises (old kata) was abolished – and with it the possibility of issuing invoices for enterprises – this number decreased drastically. The significant majority of those affected became flat-rate taxpayers, or chose another tax type, or even ceased their activities. These enterprises issued nearly 4.5 million invoices and receipts with the help of Számlázz.hu between February 2024 and February 2025. kata is the tax type with the simplest administration and the most favorable cost.

The date of February 25 is worth taking seriously. After the deadline, the authorities will call on those who have not fulfilled their tax return obligation to make up for the shortcomings, and they may then impose a fine for default.

Számlázz.hu’s customer survey numbers show that 44% of entrepreneurs with a tax return have their tax return prepared by their accountant, and 22% with the help of a family member or other expert. The rest cope with the task independently. The majority of entrepreneurs with a tax return simply keep their income records in an Excel spreadsheet, or entrust this to their accountant. Only 11% use some kind of digital solution, although programs that monitor, track, and support tax tasks make life much easier for entrepreneurs.
