The chimney cake war continues
The first chimney cake (kürtőskalács) was made in Transylvania by a Romanian woman in 1784 – Achim Irimescu Romanian Minister of Agriculture said on Tuesday.
The Agerpres news agency reported that Irimescu said that Romania wants to protect the product as protected geographical indication (PGI). He stated that the cake was first created in Transylvania, by a Romanian woman in 1784 who was a Hungarian citizen.
According to the kurtos.eu website the first recipe for the chimney cake (kürtőskalács) was published for the first time in 1784 in a Transylvanian cookbook, written by Dániel Istvánné Gróf Mikes Mária. (MTI)
