The land sale program continues
The National Land Center announced new plots of land smaller than 10 hectares for sale. In the same way as in the previous procedures, a purchase offer can be made electronically for arable fields, meadows and pastures, taking into account the conditions contained in the legislation.
In the land sale program, which will continue from September 30, 2022, more than 2,300 pieces (3,000 hectares in total) of less than 10 hectares of state-owned land are offered for public sale in more than a thousand settlements, of which about 40% are arable land, meadows, pastures, the and the rest are properties with mixed cultivation. Purchase offers can be made for the areas for 30 days, i.e. until October 30, 2022. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Hungarian farmers have the land in a good place, they cultivate these areas with their daily work and supply Hungarian households with food.
This justifies the sale of state land
The Ministry of Agriculture remains committed to speeding up the liquidation of undivided common land ownership, with which it intends to remedy the more than three-decade debt of Hungarian property policy. For this reason, real estate shares where the state is a minority owner are also sold, so even the co-owners can acquire additional property in the relevant property, which – ideally – can also reduce the number of co-owners. Similar to the previous land sale programs, the lands to be sold also serve to clean up the state’s land asset portfolio, since those typically small-area properties wedged between privately owned lands are sold, the utilization of which can – mostly – be carried out more optimally by the users of neighboring properties. For successful farming, it is essential to create the right holding size, for which the current land sale program offers a good opportunity. This time, sales are also conducted electronically. (Details are available at www.nfk.gov.hu). The coronavirus epidemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war highlighted that food supply is a strategic issue, one of the bases of which is agricultural land. Despite the challenges facing agriculture, thanks to the dedicated work and diligence of Hungarian farmers, fresh and healthy food is put on the tables of Hungarian families every day. For this very reason, the Ministry of Agriculture supports the activities of producers with all possible means, one of the basic means of which is the development of property policy measures that take into account the needs of farmers. The list of lands to be sold will be available on the website www.nfk.gov.hu from September 30, 2022, and the data on the land that can be purchased will also be published on the websites of the local governments of the affected settlements.
