This year’s students of the FAO-Hungarian scholarship program were welcomed in a ceremonial setting, with nineteen students from fourteen countries represented at the event. At the event, Dr. Oszkár Ökrös, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, emphasized that the goal of the program is for well-educated graduates to contribute to the sustainable development of developing countries and to reduce migration. He also emphasized that the cooperation of the participating countries also strengthens professional, cultural and economic relations.

Three Hungarian universities are participating in the training

MATE trains specialists in aquaculture, the University of Debrecen trains animal husbandry engineers, and the University of Sopron trains environmental management engineers. During their studies, students will become familiar with the most modern methods and their practical application. At the opening, Viorel Gutu, Acting Director of the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, also welcomed the students, and then representatives of the departments of the Ministry of Agriculture presented relevant areas of government work. Since the launch of the program, nearly 420 students from about 50 countries have been awarded scholarships to continue their studies at Hungarian agricultural universities. The program will continue in September 2026; the application deadline is February 28 of each year.
