Focus on the international presence of Hungarian agriculture
Amidst international challenges, the role of specialist diplomats in representing the interests of the Hungarian agricultural and food industry, expanding export opportunities and bringing good practices home is becoming particularly valuable – highlighted András Tállai, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, at the annual agricultural and specialist diplomats meeting organized by the ministry, where specialist diplomats serving in key partner countries around the world reported on their work and experiences.

The discussions focused on strengthening the international presence of the Hungarian agricultural and food industry, as well as the role of specialist diplomats in expanding export opportunities, organizing economic development programs and promoting professional and scientific cooperation. The results of the recent period include the increase in demand for premium products, the expansion of wine and honey exports, and the establishment of veterinary agreements that ensured the continuous presence of Hungarian products in the Far Eastern markets. In a professional panel discussion, the participants analyzed the expected effects of Ukraine’s agri-trade liberalization on domestic agriculture and the EU internal market, as well as the challenges posed by epidemic animal diseases. The discussions provided an opportunity for agricultural diplomats, background institutions and representatives of inter-professional organizations to jointly develop future strategic directions in order to strengthen the competitiveness of Hungarian farmers. The meeting was attended by agricultural diplomats serving in nine key partner countries around the world – the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Poland, Germany, Italy, Spain and Serbia – as well as the head of the permanent mission to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome. István Jakab, Vice President of the Parliament, President of MAGOSZ, and Tibor Cseh, Vice President of the National Chamber of Agriculture, were also present as distinguished guests.
