The number of tax audits may increase as a result of a health emergency
The number of tax audits has dropped dramatically in recent years. However, historical data and the experience of recent months show that the economic slowdown caused by the health emergency may encourage the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) to step up its investigations again, EY points out. This also requires conscious adaptation on the part of taxpayers.
The number of tax audits initiated in Hungary has decreased by almost a tenth (by 88 percent) in the last ten years. Meanwhile, the amount of the tax gap revealed during the investigations fell to around half (43 percent) of the rate imposed in early 2010.
