The Think Healthy Programme is a non-governmental initiative with the objective of creating a safe family and institutional environment for all children in Hungary, giving them the chance to develop in a way that they become healthy adults. It started in 2006 and since than it laid the foundations of a healthy life for several hundred thousand kindergarten children.
More than 40 brand manufacturers and service providers joined the programme. As part of the programme, each year HealthBags are sent to kindergartens, altogether to 1,650 of them all over Hungary. In the bag children find a 100-page manual of healthy living and different products related to a healthy lifestyle and a healthy diet. In March the Hungarian Dietetic Association (MDOSZ) will organise courses at three Hungarian universities on healthy eating and living. The Energy Balance and Health Programme for University Students (abbreviated as ‘E3’ in Hungarian) will be five semesters long and its goal is to reach several thousand students by the end of 2015 via the Corvinus University of Budapest (Faculty of Food Science), the University of Debrecen (Faculty of Medicine) and the University of Pécs (Faculty of Health Sciences). Nutritional habits of students participating in the lectures or visiting personal consultants will be registered, together with their weight, height, etc. By the end of the three-year period data will be available on 4,500 students’ dietary habits and nutritional status, which could form the basis of further research.
