Tensions and obstacles to data provision in the Hungarian tourism market
Perceptible internal tensions in domestic tourism and the problems of data provision have a significant impact on the actors of the sector. Smaller tourism businesses complain that they are adversely affected by larger players, but the exact reasons are not yet clear. In the meantime, the availability and quality of the data also hinders the development of the industry.
NTAK, which was intended to be the largest digital development of the Hungarian tourism sector, is struggling with data collection and service problems. The difficulties of data provision particularly sensitively affect smaller businesses, which complain that they do not have access to nationally relevant data, which adversely affects their business and strategic decisions, the Index reports.
The National Tourist Information Center is operated by the Hungarian Tourism Agency, which aims to provide tourism data in real time. However, businesses report that data is often incomplete or difficult to access. The information published by KSH is only summary and lacks more detailed data for individual settlements or regions.
The situation is complicated by the fact that small businesses are often excluded from access to data, which also limits their development opportunities. Limited access to data managed by NTAK reinforces inequalities within the sector, which may affect the competitiveness of the entire sector in the long term.
