“This is an important step in our growth journey in Brazil,” Savencia CEO Olivier Delaméa said.

French dairy group Savencia Fromage & Dairy has agreed to acquire Brazilian peer Quatá Alimentos for an undisclosed sum, Just Food reports.

The deal brings with it products sold under Quatá’s namesake brand. The business, which has its headquarters in São Paulo, also markets products under the Glória brand.

Savencia described the Quatá portfolio as “a wide, complementary range of cheese and dairy products”.

Olivier Delaméa, Savencia’s CEO, said the acquisition “reinforces” the group’s  operations in Brazil, where it has been present since the 1970s with brands such as Polenghi, Campo Lindo, Polenguinho and Frescatino.

Delaméa added: “This is an important step in our growth journey in Brazil as it will enable Savencia to complement its portfolio and strengthen its position in the Brazilian dairy market.”

The transaction remains subject to review and clearance by Brazil’s antitrust authority CADE, in line with local competition rules.

In a joint statement, Quatá Alimentos founders José Henrique Coutinho and Maurício Franco said: “Today, we are taking a new step in our history by joining the great Savencia family. This alliance honours Quatá’s journey and strengthens our commitment to continue its development.”

Quatá Alimentos was set up in 1990. According to the company’s LinkedIn profile, the company has seven manufacturing sites across four states in Brazil: three in Minas Gerais; two in São Paulo; one in Paraná and one in Rio de Janeiro.
