There was also the possibility of abolishing VAT on basic food items
The VAT on basic foodstuffs must be abolished temporarily, at least until the end of the year, said a representative of the Democratic Coalition (DK) at his online press conference on Wednesday.

The abolition of VAT would ease the burden of inflation
Ferenc Dávid spoke about how, according to the latest report of the National Statistical Office, inflation was 21.1 percent in October, while food inflation reached forty percent. Within this, eggs rose by 88 percent, bread by 81 percent, dairy products by 75 percent, and dry pasta and margarine by 58 percent, he pointed out.
In the past few days, a statement was received that in September this year, people left HUF 133 billion more in stores than in the same month last year, when they bought almost three percent less food – he drew attention. Calculating the 27 percent VAT, the government gained HUF 36 billion in additional revenue from the purchases of Hungarians this September alone – said Ferenc Dávid.
