Survey: Nearly 30 percent of EU citizens cannot afford a holiday
28 percent of EU citizens cannot afford to take a holiday away from home once a year. This is an average of around 60 percent of those living below the poverty line, according to a study published by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) on Monday. .
According to a survey based on data from the EU’s statistical office, Greece has the worst situation among EU Member States, with 88.9 percent of those living below the poverty line not going on holiday. The southern European countries are followed by Romania and Croatia with 86.8 and 84.7 percent, respectively. Hungary ranks 17th among 27 Member States, with 72.8 percent of low-income earners unable to pay for holidays away from home. (MTI)
