The Ecumenical Relief Organization’s 30th Advent fundraiser has reached its halfway point, with hundreds of thousands of people already joining, offering more than 100 million forints to support those in need, the relief organization told MTI on Sunday.

Since the fundraiser was launched, 80,000 people have dialed the 1353 donation line, which, assuming a donation of 500 forints per call, represents a donation of 40 million forints. Since mid-November, more than 224,000 300-forint donation coupons have been sold at the checkouts in Tesco stores, meaning that more than 67 million forints have been donated by the store chain’s customers.

According to the announcement, the main goal of the fundraising is to enable the aid organization to help the needy and those in need throughout the year through its nationwide institutional system, in addition to its holiday aid campaigns, with food aid packages, hot meal distributions, firewood, or Christmas children’s programs.

Donations are accepted until the end of the year on the 1353 donation line and in Tesco stores; donations are collected in boxes at larger post offices. The aid organization’s donation point at the Advent Basilica event site will be open until December 22, they announced.
