Rossmann celebrates half a century – the German drugstore chain celebrates its 50th birthday
50 years ago, at the age of 25, Dirk Rossmann opened his drugstore, the “Cosmetics Market,” in Hanover. It was the first self-service drugstore in Germany, and he has since been regarded as the inventor and pioneer of this concept. The company is now one of Europe’s largest drug chains in 8 countries, with 56,500 employees and 4,361 stores. In 2021, the Rossmann Group generated sales of € 11.1 billion in Germany, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Albania, Kosovo, Spain and Turkey.
