Magazine: Fast food restaurants turned upside down?
After a change in restaurants’ design and the introduction of healthier meals, the next step is expanding the selection of drinks in fast food restaurants. However, this may turn the world of fast food upside down. McDonald’s introduced iced frappés in March and smoothies will appear in US units in May. Coke sales have been declining recently and the staff in McDrives experienced that customers started bringing their own drinks.
McDonald’s management is convinced that by widening their drink selection they will profit from the current market trends: in the United States the turnover of non-alcoholic beverages surpassed USD 153 billion last year – McDonald’s expects an annual turnover of USD 2 billon from frappés and smoothies.
