Madagascar is the world’s largest vanilla exporter, exporting 80 percent of the vanilla available on the world market. The world market price of vanilla has now risen to 150-190 thousand forints per kilogram.
As the police can not provide protection against robbers, most farmers have moved to their plantations with their rifles. (origo)
