The decline in the number of tourists and guest nights in Romania continued in February, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Friday.
In the second month of the year, 787.5 thousand guests spent at least one night in tourist accommodation, 3.7 percent less than in February 2025. The number of domestic tourists decreased by 5.8 percent to 643.7 thousand, while the number of foreign tourists increased by 7 percent to 143.8 thousand.
The number of guest nights decreased by 3 percent to 1.527 million. The number of domestic guest nights decreased by 4.9 percent, while the number of foreign tourists increased by 5 percent.
In the first two months of the year, the number of tourists decreased by 5.5 percent to 1.573 million. Domestic guests were 8 percent fewer than in the same period last year, at 1.284 million, while the number of foreign tourists increased by 7.4 percent to 288.7 thousand. The largest number of foreigners came from Italy (33,666 people), Germany (21,769 people), Israel (21,534 people), the United Kingdom (20,840 people) and the Republic of Moldova (17,409 people).
The number of guest nights decreased by 5.8 percent to 3.014 million. The number of domestic guest nights decreased by 8.6 percent, while that of foreigners increased by 6.4 percent. The occupancy rate of accommodation facilities was 21.5 percent, which is a 2.2 percentage point decrease compared to the first two months of 2025.
