Farkas Sándor: one of the driving forces of Hungarian agriculture is milk production
Milk production is one of the driving sectors of Hungarian agriculture, which increased by 1 percent compared to the previous year, to 185.5 billion HUF, while milk processing gace 11 percent of food production with its nearly 300 billion HUF production value last year – Farkas Sándor, Parliamentary Minister of State of the Ministry of Agriculture (AM ) said on Thursday at the World Milk Day event in Budapest.
He said that livestock in Hungary has grown by 30 percent in the past 8 years, and now the cow population is about 403,000. In terms of milk yield, the country is among the first in the European Union (EU), with yields increasing by 10 percent between 2012 and 2018, which was accompanied by an increase in the share of dairy cows in addition to improved genetics and nutrition. The sector has received top government support in recent years. (MTI)
