We are more tired than we think – what weighs on Hungarians the most?
The accelerated pace of life, the constant adaptation and the reasons for uncertainty are now seriously testing not only our general well-being, but also our mental health. While mental well-being was previously a secondary concern for many, it has now become clear: a balanced state of mind fundamentally influences work, our everyday relationships and our quality of life. A recent, nationally representative study by Generali Insurance sheds light on how Hungarians feel and what factors could help improve their mental state.
Mental health has become a societal issue
Health today means much more than physical condition: mental and emotional well-being are also part of balance. Stress, anxiety or burnout are not isolated problems, but phenomena that affect a wide range of people. Maintaining mental health is not a luxury, but a basic requirement for functioning well in different areas of life in the long term.
Fatigue, stress, exhaustion – this characterizes everyday life
According to a recent survey of 1,000 people by Generali Insurance in December 2025, nearly half of the Hungarians surveyed often feel stressed, tense or exhausted. Only 10 percent of the respondents said that they generally feel energetic and are doing well in everyday life.
Differences are also clearly visible by age:
·The younger generation is more concerned about questions about the future, while for the older generation, health is a greater source of uncertainty.
Nearly one-fifth of those surveyed feel their general sense of security is low. Many believe that a stable financial background, supportive human relationships and predictability would significantly contribute to improving their mental health.
What would make us feel better?
The responses made it clear that many people associate the improvement of mental well-being with very tangible factors.
· Those who feel that they are in a worse mental state would primarily expect a change from an improvement in their financial situation.
· Those who are basically well are more likely to mention better sleep, more balanced everyday and quality of social relationships.
Also at the top of the list are stable employment, regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle – factors that can strengthen mental resilience in the long term.
