FAO: Record high world food prices
The FAO food price index rose a further 12.6 percent to 159.3 points in March from a 141.4-point high in February, the Paris-based World Food and Agriculture Organization said on Friday.
The grain price index averaged 170.1 points in March, driven mainly by a sharp rise in wheat and coarse grain prices due to the war in Ukraine. The agency downgraded its estimate of this year’s world wheat crop from last year’s forecast of 790 million tonnes to 784 million tonnes on Friday. (MTI)
