FAO: The restrictions on grain exports may lead to food crisis
If the grain-producing countries will introduce export restrictive measures again, a similar food crisis may occur as in 2007-2008 – warns the report of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization, the FAO.
The FAO’s statement shows that the global food prices rose again in July, after a decrease occurred in the price index in the previous three months. According to FAO, prices may continue to grow in the forthcoming months. The FAO-index, containing the price of grains, oilseeds, dairy, meat and sugar increased to 213 points in July, from the 201 points of June, which is below the 238 points nadir, measured in February 2011 – but already higher than the levels of 2007-2008.
