In June, for the first time in 12 months, food prices fell globally on a monthly basis.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) calculated that the June price index was 124.6 points, 2.5 percent (3.2 points) lower than in May, but still 33.9 percent higher than a year before.

The FAO Food Price Index is a trade-weighted indicator that takes into account the international market prices of the five most important food commodities – vegetable oils, cereals, meat, dairy products and sugar. (MTI)
