Catfish with paprika, cottage cheese csusza and golden galuska – served with shepherd’s wisdom, spiced with Puli enthusiasm. Budapest’s newest inn, Puli és Juhász, has opened on the corner of Dob utca and Síp utca: a place where they don’t try to redefine traditions, but to relive them – with a steaming pot, a laid tablecloth and the warm, homely memory of grandma’s kitchen.

In Puli és Juhász, every flavour and object tells a story – about an era, a region, a shared past. The choice of name is not accidental: the puli – an eternally moving, ancient Hungarian breed, a true black vortex that intervenes in and observes everything – embodies the restaurant’s clownish, hospitable spirit. And the yuhász brings what only the Hungarian steppes know: serenity, wisdom, quiet order and homemade pálinka – if necessary. Together they form a duo that makes even city dwellers cry out for a ring whip!

The tavern atmosphere is not only on the walls, but also on the plates: the sausages are crunching, the stew is steaming, the cottage cheese is fragrant – it’s as if you’ve stepped into another era from your grandmother’s kitchen. The menu is based on classic Hungarian dishes: crispy carp crackling, Gödöllő stuffed chicken, Budapest tenderloin, homemade strudel and of course golden dumplings – children and those looking for lighter dishes will also find their favorites in the range. The ingredients are the tastiest products from domestic small producers, so that we can live well with not only quality but also authentic dishes.

The Puli and Juhász tavern – as a member of the Paprika House Hungarian experience complex – is the most barking joint child of Semsei Gastronomy, which also includes the popular VakVarjú restaurant family, and the Stifler group. One of the founders of the business, Rudolf Semsei, has been representing quality yet direct hospitality for decades and is working to ensure that traditional Hungarian cuisine has not only a past, but also a present.

“We do not follow trends, but we serve history. Puli and Juhász is a place where you not only live well, but also come home a little. The puli is in us – we are playful, but loyal to Hungarian cuisine”

– says Rudolf Semsei, owner of Semsei Gastronomy.
