These were the most wanted tech items of 2022
Compared to the previous year, the demand for televisions in MediaMarkt’s stores and on its online interface did not decrease. Within this category, consumers were primarily looking for 4K UHD TVs, specifically with a larger image diameter of 55” and above.
The number of units sold in the television category also increased, which MediaMarkt attributes to the combination of the Black November sale period, the soccer World Cup, and Christmas shopping. The annual average basket value for UHD TVs was HUF 223,000. Notebooks were similarly sold products this year, for which consumers spent HUF 248,000 on average.
Presumably, as a result of the state housing renovation subsidy, the sale of built-in large household appliances did not decrease, and even increased in some categories. Built-in stoves and hotplates were among the best-performing technical items in terms of both the number of units sold and the increase in volume. The increasing importance of energy labels was already observed in the case of large household appliances, but due to the energy crisis, the energy consumption of large appliances clearly became one of the most important selection criteria. This was also the case with washing machines, of which the largest Hungarian technical department store chain also sold an outstanding amount this year. Vacuum cleaners are traditionally at the forefront in terms of demand, in this category bagless and upright vacuum cleaners were the most popular in 2022. The latter two product groups have risen to the forefront of the most frequently purchased products despite the fact that this year there was a slight decline compared to last year’s sales data.
