The new type of Bimi broccoli is hugely popular in restaurants and shops in Europe and is spreading almost unbelievably fast. In the past year, demand has increased by 99 percent on the continent. Originating from Japan, Bimi broccoli can be distinguished from traditional broccoli by its long stem and spreading florets. The cultivation of Bimi broccoli is mainly focused on France in Europe, as the increase in demand encourages producers to expand their production areas. However, the vagaries of the weather, which have been typical lately, were not favorable for the crop.

According to research conducted on mice, certain molecules in broccoli have a positive effect on the mucous membrane of the small intestine and influence the function of intestinal cells. Research shows that cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, should be an integral part of a healthy diet that can promote human health. Studies in mice have shown that a diet containing broccoli helps to alter intestinal barrier function and healthy intestinal function. Mice that did not receive broccoli in their diet had significantly worse gut health. Broccoli has a beneficial effect on the mucous membrane of the small intestine, increases the protective mucus layer and promotes the transit time of food in the intestine, which contributes to proper intestinal function.
