A pumpkin that takes your breath away
A new record has been set for the heaviest pumpkin in Australia and New Zealand. Dale Oliver's winning pumpkin weighed in at 743 kilograms during the Summerland Pumpkin Competition held at Kyogle in northern New South Wales.

In 2013 the Knockrow grower set and then broke his 575 kilogram record with a 619 kilogram pumpkin. But Mr Oliver said he had grown pumpkins as heavy as 680 kilograms but they weren't officially recorded. On top of the record and first place in Kyogle he also secured second prize with a 669 kilogram pumpkin. “We took a few over there to build the numbers because it was a pretty bad season early in spring,” he said.
