Hungary inflation trickles down to 8.3% yr/yr
According to Central Statistics Office (KSH) datas Hungary's consumer prices rose by 8.3% year on year in August.
The price of flour rose 7.1% m/m and shot up by 33.2% from
August 2006, due to bad crop caused by the draught. This filtered down to the
price of bread, which went up 1.7% m/m and 17.3% yr/yr. The price of egg went
up 6.9% m/m and 18.3% yr/yr. The price of pork increased by 4.6% m/m, mostly
because of rising fodder prices. A milk shortage in Europe contributed to the
4.3% m/m increase in the price of milk. Year-on-year food inflation went up to
10.9% from 10.1% in August.
Good news is, however, that the price of consumer durables
edged up by a mere 0.1% m/m even as the forint eased considerably in August.
Note that there was an 0.3% rise here in July when the HUF was firm and stable.
