Eurostat: the number of guest nights booked on online platforms in the EU continued to increase

The number of nights spent in short-term accommodation in EU member states continued to increase in the summer months of 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, the European Union’s statistical office, Eurostat, announced on Thursday.

According to the EU’s statistical office, between July and September 2025, guests in the European Union spent 398.1 million nights in short-term accommodation booked through Airbnb, Booking or Expedia.

Guest nights in the third quarter of 2025 increased by 8.7 percent compared to the same quarter of 2024 and by 28.2 percent compared to the third quarter of 2023.

The largest monthly increase of 10 percent was recorded in July, while accommodation rates recorded 8 percent growth in both August and September.

Describing the most popular regions for accommodation booked on online platforms, the report reported records for the second quarter of 2025, according to which the most such accommodation was booked in Andalusia in Spain (13.3 million nights), followed by the Jadranska Hrvatska region, which forms the coastal part of Croatia, with 9.6 million nights, and Ile-de-France, which includes the French capital, Paris. region, where 9 million guest nights were booked.

The twenty most popular EU tourist regions are located in five countries, six of which are in Spain, six in France, five in Italy, two in Portugal and one in Croatia.

According to the report, between July 1 and the end of September 2025, the most short-term accommodation in Hungary was booked on online platforms in Budapest, with 2,381,754.

227,196 in the South Transdanubia region, 170,859 in the West Transdanubia region, 141,659 in the Central Transdanubia region, In the Northern Hungary region, 95,412 guests booked short-term accommodation via online platforms, in the Northern Great Plain region 92,230, in the Southern Great Plain region 85,068, and finally in the region belonging to Pest County 44,252 guests booked short-term accommodation via online platforms.
