Eurostat: the number of guest nights booked on online platforms has increased in the EU
Compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of guest nights spent in short-term accommodation in the EU member states increased by 16.2 percent to 208.8 million in the second quarter of 2024, Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, announced on Thursday.
According to the report of the EU Statistical Office, guests spent 53.5 million nights in accommodation booked through online platforms in April, which shows a slight decrease of 1.8 percent compared to April 2023.
In May, 73 million nights were registered for accommodation booked online, which is a 31.7 percent increase compared to May 2023. The number of bookings and nights spent also increased in June, to 82.3 million (+17.8 percent on an annual basis).
In the examined three-month period, June was the month when the number of guest nights booked via online platforms increased in all EU countries. Compared to June 2023, the largest increase was registered in Malta (+45.8 percent), Lithuania (+28.1 percent) and Sweden (+27.4 percent). The smallest increases were registered in Belgium (+2.6 percent), the Netherlands (+3.3 percent) and Slovenia (+6 percent).
