Eurostat: the number of guest nights booked on online platforms increased
The number of guest nights booked in the European Union on online platforms continued to increase in the second quarter of 2023, the statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat, announced on Monday.
According to the report, guests booked almost 153 million short-term rental accommodations through the tourism and accommodation booking platforms Airbnb, Booking, Expedia, or TripAdvisor, and the number of guest nights spent exceeded the data recorded in the same period of the previous year by 15.8 percent.
The number of accommodation booked through online platforms reached new monthly records in April, when guests spent 46.7 million nights in accommodation booked through online platforms. This figure represents a 19.5 percent increase compared to April 2022. In May, this number was 47.6 million, which was 22.6 percent higher than a year earlier. And in June, 58.7 million accommodations were booked online, which is 8.4 percent more compared to June of the previous year.
